We want to provide an update regarding our transition from VMware to Proxmox VE for NETLAB+. As you may have heard, Broadcom has decided to end the VMware IT Academy and Academic Software License programs. In light of this, we have been actively working to provide Proxmox VE as an alternative backend. We are pleased to report that our transition is proceeding as planned, and we anticipate being operational on Proxmox VE by the beginning of the fall semester.

We're diligently working on a new beta version of NETLAB+ that will utilize Proxmox as an alternative backend. Here's an overview of our rollout plan:

As an open-source product, Proxmox offers exciting new opportunities. However, the application programmable interface (API) may have less maturity compared to commercial products. In preparation for working with Proxmox, we encourage you to strengthen your Linux/command-line skills and Proxmox interface exposure. To help you administer a NETLAB+ system on Proxmox, we've developed introductory and advanced Proxmox lab libraries.
NETLAB+ administrators can leverage the labs to gain proficiency in Proxmox, a valuable skill that will streamline NETLAB+ administrative tasks, including installation and setup for the new Proxmox VE-based NETLAB+ version. Labs 2, 5A, 6, and 7 from NDG Proxmox VE 8: Setup and Management will benefit NETLAB+ administrators.
Chapter 5 of our free NDG Online Linux Essentials labs provide an excellent foundation for Linux/CLI basics.
In our continued commitment to supporting learners and academic institutions, NDG is providing alternative virtualization learning options. The NDG Proxmox VE 8: Setup and Management and NDG Proxmox VE 8: Advanced Administration and Optimization labs enable academic institutions to transition from VMware while continuing to teach virtualization effectively. We're also working to update our Cloud and Virtualization Concepts course to replace VMware content with Proxmox and other relevant virtualization topics.
