Keyboard problems in lab virtual machines
Keystrokes reach lab virtual machines with some limits. First check that your computer meets the NDG Online system requirements.
Keyboard layout
Labs and virtual machines assume a US English (en-US) QWERTY layout. Other layouts may work but are not supported. If a non-English keyboard causes problems, switch your layout to en-US or use an on-screen keyboard set to en-US.
Caps Lock
Caps Lock belongs to your own computer and usually doesn't reach virtual machines or remote desktops. Use Shift for capital letters.
Shortcuts other software takes
Software on your computer can claim a key combination even when it isn't open or in focus. The most common is Alt+F2, which some NVIDIA software uses. If a key combination a lab asks for never reaches the virtual machine, change or turn off the shortcut in that software, or use another computer.
Function keys
Many keyboards, especially on laptops and Macs, use the function keys (F1, F2, and so on) for things like screen brightness. Your keyboard or computer documentation explains how to send real function keys. On a Mac, see Apple's guide to using the function keys.
Use an on-screen keyboard
If a key still won't reach the virtual machine, use an on-screen keyboard. Some virtual machines include one, and every desktop operating system has one:
