NDG Online system requirements
Computer
Use a laptop or desktop running Windows, macOS, or Linux, with a physical keyboard and a mouse or trackpad. Phones and tablets are not supported.
Keyboard
Labs and virtual machines assume a US English (en-US) QWERTY keyboard layout. Other layouts may work but are not supported. If a non-English keyboard causes problems, switch your layout to en-US or use an on-screen keyboard set to en-US.
Use Shift for capital letters, not Caps Lock. Caps Lock belongs to your own computer and usually doesn't reach virtual machines or remote desktops. See Keyboard problems in lab virtual machines.
Browser
NDG tests and supports the latest stable release of:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
Beta and nightly builds are not supported. Other browsers may work but are not supported. Apple Safari has known problems with NDG Online and is not supported.
Cookies must be enabled. Add *.netdevgroup.com to your browser's cookie allow list (see Cookie problems).
PDF reader
Some labs show their instructions as a PDF on the Content tab. Your browser's built-in PDF viewer works. If the instructions look blurry, another PDF program on your computer has likely taken over PDFs in the browser.
Screen resolution
- Recommended: 1920 x 1080 or higher
- Minimum: 1366 x 768 (not recommended)
Below the recommended resolution, virtual machine windows can look blurry or be cut off as NDG Online shrinks them to fit.
Internet connection
The lab connection uses little bandwidth but is sensitive to delay and dropped packets, which weak Wi-Fi often causes. Use a wired (Ethernet) connection of at least 1.5 Mbps where you can. Dial-up is not supported.
VPNs are not supported. Labs can behave unexpectedly or fail through a VPN.
